Protests at Harmanli migrants’ camp (Bulgaria)

Protests erupt at #Harmanli camp as asylum seekers in the camp are taking a stand, raising their voices against injustice and demanding urgent action from Bulgarian authorities.
#Bulgaria’s Harmanli camp is home to hundreds of asylum seekers, many of whom are fleeing the decades-long dangers of #Syria. Instead of safety and protection, they face neglect, hostile treatment, repeated asylum rejections and inhumane living conditions. Since yesterday, they’ve been protesting in front of the asylum office with the following demands:
– Granting residency to asylum seekers and acknowledging that Syria is not safe due to its unstable situation and uncertain future.
– Cancel imprisonment for those who obtain a third refusal and allow them time to leave the country instead.
– Issue procedures for ID cards, leave permits, and work permits for students and asylum seekers.
– Improve living conditions in the camp, including medical services and food.
– Ensure fair treatment in court for those rejected, allowing them to speak and defend themselves.
The protests are still ongoing and the protesters are standing firm in their demands. We stand in solidarity with asylum seekers protesting in Harmanli and with all those detained and enclosed in inhumane conditions in Bulgaria and everywhere. We ask you to help amplify their voices and to stand in solidarity to fight injustice.
