- The political refugee and member of the Community Of Squatted Prosfygika Abdurrahman Kaykan (Apo) is detained in the Attica Immigration Directorate by order of the Turkish state to Interpol for the extradition of our comrade back to Turkey. The comrade, who has been living in Greece for ten years, after filing an application for renewal of his residence permit, was detained this morning 26/2 at the Immigration Directorate and tomorrow will go to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to decide whether he will be detained or released, pending a decision on his extradition or not to Turkey.
The fascist state of Turkey does not stop the persecution of political refugees regardless of how many years pass, cooperating with “democratic” states, such as the Greek one, persecutes any opposition voice or anti-fascist activity. Political refugees arrive in Greece precisely to escape this persecution for their opinions and political action. People who are persecuted in Turkey, in order to avoid incarceration and extreme torture, migrate to the bourgeois-democratic states of the West seeking political asylum. If they manage to arrive, and even if a few of them are granted asylum status, they remain hostage to state and parastatal terrorism, both for themselves and their families.
It is seemingly a paradox and an absurdity that someone who has been recognised for so many years by the Greek state and the European Union as a political refugee and who is in asylum status, and therefore in obvious and proven danger to his life, like the detained comrade Apo, should be under the risk of extradition precisely for the reasons for which he was granted political asylum. However, this seemingly absurd situation, which is constantly increasing in Greece and in the other EU countries, demonstrates in the clearest way the policy of exterminating militants and any voice and action against fascism, as well as the complete disregard of any concept of international law and the supposed protection of human rights.
